Mirpur (Bengali:মিরপুর) is athana ofDhaka city,Bangladesh. It is bounded byPallabi Thana to the north,Mohammadpur Thana to the south,Kafrul to the east, andSavar Upazila to the west.[5][6] For administrative convenience three new thanas, namelyShah Ali,Pallabi Thana andKafrul Thana have been carved out of old Mirpur Thana.[7]
Mirpur Thana was established in 1962. The thana consists of oneunion parishad, eight wards, 11 mouzas and 86 and 20 villages. Mirpur Thana (town) area was included inKeraniganj Thana during theBritish period (1757–1947) and inTejgaon Thana during thePakistan period (1947–1971). After theBangladesh Liberation War, following thevictory day, Mirpur was independent on 31 January 1972.
The thana, with a total area of 6.42 km2 (2.48 sq mi), is situated in the northeast ofDhaka city. It is bounded byShah Ali Thana andPallabi Thana on the north,Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Thana andDarus Salam Thana on the south,Pallabi Thana andKafrul Thana on the east andShah Ali Thana andDarus Salam Thana on the west.
According to2011 Census of Bangladesh, Mirpur Thana had a population of 500,373 with average household size of 4.3 members, and an average literacy rate of 80.2% vs national average of 51.8% literacy.[8]

For the cricketworld cup of 2011, Mirpur'sSher-e-Bangla Cricket Stadium was selected as a venue.[9] For this, renovations were carried out within the thana. The opening match was held there on 19 February 2011.
