Minuscule 740 (in theGregory-Aland numbering), Θε410 (von Soden),[1][2] is aGreekminusculemanuscript of theNew Testament written on paper. It is dated by acolophon to 1318 CE. The manuscript has complex contents.[3][4]Scrivener labelled it as 761e.[5]
Thecodex contains the text of the fourGospels on 444paper leaves (size 24.9 cm by 17.5 cm).[3] According to Scrivener it has 441 leaves.[5] The text of Matthew 1:1-2:18 was supplied by a later hand.[1]
The text is written in one column per page, 33-37 lines per page.[3]
The text is divided according to theκεφαλαια (chapters), whose numbers are given at the margin, and theirτιτλοι (titles) at the top. According to Gregory there is also another division according to the smallerAmmonian Sections.[6]
It contains lectionary markings andSynaxarion (liturgical book). It has a commentary ofTheophylact.[5]
Aland did not place the Greek text of the codex in anyCategory.[7]
It was not examined by using theClaremont Profile Method.[8]
Martin and after him Scrivener dated the manuscript to the 12th or 13th century; Gregory dated it to the 14th or 15th century.[6] According to the colophon the manuscript was written in 1318.[3][4] The name of scribe was John (?), from Chalcedon (?).[6]
The manuscript was added to the list of New Testament manuscripts by Scrivener (761) and Gregory (740). It was examined and described byPaulin Martin.[9] Gregory saw the manuscript in 1885.[6]
The manuscript is now housed at theBibliothèque nationale de France (Gr. 234) inParis.[3][4]
