Miloš Šakota (Serbian Cyrillic:Милош Шакота,Greek:Μίλος Σάκοτα, born 11 June 1984) is a Greek–Serbianprofessionalbasketball coach and former player who is the assistant coach ofAEK Athens. Standing at 6 ft 9 in (2.06 m), he played bothsmall forward andpower forward positions.
Šakota played forIonikos NF,Near East,Aigaleo,Apollon Limassol (Cyprus),CSKA Sofia (Bulgaria), Al Nizwa (Oman),Olympias Patras,Arkadikos, andAE Livadia during his playing career.[1][2][3] He played in theEuropean-wide 2nd-tier levelEuroCup, during the2003–04 season, with Ionikos NF. He retired as a player with Livadia in 2015, to pursuit a coaching career.
In October 2016, Šakota returned from the retirement and signed for AE Santorinis.[4] On 31 July 2017, he signed for Lokros Atalantis.[1][5] In 2018, Šakota joined a rosterSlodes of theSecond Basketball League of Serbia, upon an invitation ofNenad Mišanović. For the second time, he retired as a player in 2020.[6]
Šakota has a stint in 2015 when theGreek League clubAEK hired him as an assistant coach, joining the coaching staff of his fatherDragan Šakota.[7]
After second retirement in 2020, Šakota joined theSlodes staff as an assistant coach. Afterwards, he joined a youth system ofŽitko Basket as the U19 head coach.[6]
On 17 August 2022,Crvena zvezda hired Šakota as their new head coach for theunder-16 team.[8][9]
Šakota is a son ofDragan Šakota, a professional basketballcoach and former player, and the older brother ofDušan Šakota, a retired Greek professional basketball player.[6] His father Dragan is aFIBA Saporta Cup champion in1991 andFIBA Champions League champion in2018. His brother Dušan is a two-timeEuroLeague champion, winning both titles withPanathinaikos, in2007 and2009.
