
PrinceMikhail Mikhailovich Golitsyn orGalitzin (Russian:Михаи́л Миха́йлович Голи́цын; 11 November [O.S. 1 November] 1675, inMoscow – 21 December [O.S. 10 December] 1730) was a Russianfield marshal (1725) and the president of theCollege of War (1728–1730). He was from theHouse of Golitsyn.
He was the son ofMikhail Andreyevich Golitsyn and spouse ofTatyana Borisovna Golitsyna.
He fought theSwedish Empire at the battles ofDobroye,Lesnaya,Pälkäne,Napue andGrengam.
Golitsyn was the governor ofFinland (1714–1721) during theGreat Wrath. From 1728, he was a member of theSupreme Privy Council.[1]
TheMillennium of Russia in Veliky Novgorod contains a sculpture of Golitsyn. Asteroid7161 Golitsyn was named after him.Bauman Garden was established on the grounds of his Moscow mansion.
