Merrill D. Marmer (September 25, 1925 – January 12, 2002) was an Americanscreenwriter.
Marmer was born in Lowell, Massachusetts. DuringWorld War II he served with theU.S. Marine Corps onOkinawa. After his discharge he attendedSuffolk University on theG.I. Bill. While at university he acted in student productions before deciding to become a writer.[2]
Often working withStan Burns, Marmer wrote for television programs includingGet Smart,The Carol Burnett Show,Three's Company,Gilligan's Island, and the early 1970s children's showLancelot Link, Secret Chimp. He also wrote material for comedians such asSteve Allen,Milton Berle,Dean Martin,Bob Newhart, andFlip Wilson.[2]
Marmer won aPrimetime Emmy Award in the categoryOutstanding Writing for a Variety Series for his work onThe Carol Burnett Show, and was nominated for four more forThe Ernie Kovacs Show,The Carol Burnett Show andThe Flip Wilson Show.[3] Marmer died in January 2002 ofcancer inLos Angeles, California, at the age of 76.[1][4]
