Michael Lee Falls (born March 3, 1934) is an American former professionalfootballguard in theNational Football League (NFL) for theDallas Cowboys. He playedcollege football at theUniversity of Minnesota.
Falls attendedBemidji High School where helettered in football andtrack. In 1952, he won the Region 8shot put championship.
He accepted a football scholarship from theUniversity of Minnesota. He was a three-year starter, beginning his career as a two-way guard. As a junior, he was moved to tackle.[1] As a senior, he was elected team captain.[2] He also served as the team'splacekicker.[3] He played in the 1955Blue–Gray game.[4]
Falls was selected by theNew York Giants in the twentieth round (237th overall) of the1956 NFL draft, but didn't sign with the team.
On February 24,1956, he signed with theToronto Argonauts of theInterprovincial Rugby Football Union league, which eventually became theCanadian Football League.[5] He played on theoffensive line and was also the squad'splacekicker.[6] He was cut in October.
In1959, he was signed as afree agent by theNew York Giants.[7] He was released on September 14.
On March 10,1960, he was signed as afree agent by theGreen Bay Packers. He was released on September 19.
On September 22,1960, he was claimed off waivers by theDallas Cowboys.[8] He won theright guard job by mid-season and started 5 games during the franchise's inaugural year. In1961, he started all 14 games at right guard.[9] He announced his retirement in1963.
After football he initially worked in a public relations job, before being anEpiscopal priest for thirty-six years. He was also a teaching associate ofJohn Bradshaw. He was the Chaplain at Austin Recovery, adrug detox inAustin, Texas.
