Michele Marcolini (born 2 October 1975) is an Italianfootball coach and formerfootballer, who played as amidfielder. He last was the manager of theMalta national football team.
ATorino youth system product, Marcolini made his senior debut withSora in 1994. In 1997, he joinedBari, with whom he spent four seasons and also made hisSerie A debut. He then played at Serie B level for two seasons withVicenza, and then back to top flight football withAtalanta andChievo. On 27 June 2011, he mutually terminated his contract with Chievo.[1] He then signed a one-year contract withSerie B sidePadova on 4 July 2011, and ended his career in 2013 after a lone season withLega Pro Prima Divisione clubLumezzane.
In June 2013 Marcolini took his first managerial role, replacingGianluca Festa as head coach ofLumezzane.
In June 2014 he was named new head coach ofLega Pro clubReal Vicenza, being however sacked later in January 2015 and then re-appointed in February to complete the season in seventh place.
He successively served as head coach ofPavia from August to December 2015, and then took over atSantarcangelo for the club's full2016–17 Lega Pro campaign.
On 21 November 2017, he was appointed at the helm ofSerie C clubAlessandria, in place ofCristian Stellini.[2]
On 27 November 2018, he was hired as head coach ofSerie C clubAlbinoLeffe, with the team in the relegation zone.[3]
On 4 July 2019, he was hired as head coach of his former club, freshly relegatedSerie B club,Chievo.[4] On 1 March 2020, he was fired by Chievo, with the team in 8th place.[5]
On 2 November 2020, he signed withSerie C clubNovara.[6] He was fired on 14 December 2020 after the club gained 4 points in 7 games under his helm.[7]
On 5 July 2021, Marcolini returned toAlbinoLeffe.[8] After completing the season with the Lombardian club, he was dismissed on 24 May 2022.[9]
On 15 December 2022, Marcolini was hired as the new head coach of theMalta national football team, succeedingDevis Mangia to the role, agreeing a contract until the end of 2024.[10]
On 13 September 2024, despite winning his last game in charge of Malta againstAndorra, Marcolini was relieved of his duties.[11]
