Michel Kazanski (born 24 March 1953) is a French archaeologist who is the director of research at the Center for Byzantine History and Civilization of theCollège de France and theFrench National Centre for Scientific Research.
Michel Kazanski was born inRiga, then part of theSoviet Union, on 24 March 1953. He was educated atSaint Petersburg State University, theRussian Academy of Sciences and theUniversity of Paris. Since 2008, Kazanski has been the director of research at the Center for Byzantine History and Civilization of theCollège de France and theFrench National Centre for Scientific Research. Kazanski specializes in the archaeology of theByzantine Empire and the "barbarian" peoples of themigration period. He is the author of hundreds of scientific articles and dozens of books and monographs on these subjects.[1][2]
