Michel Aebischer (born 6 January 1997) is a Swiss professionalfootballer who plays as adefensive midfielder forSerie A clubPisa, on loan fromBologna, and theSwitzerland national team.[2]

Club career

Aebischer is a youth exponent fromYoung Boys. He made hisSwiss Super League debut on 10 September 2016 againstLuzern.[3]

He was part of the Young Boys squad that won the2017–18 Swiss Super League, their first league title for 32 years.[4]

On 25 January 2022, he joinedBologna in Italy. The transfer was initially a loan with a future obligation to buy the rights permanently.[5]

On 3 August 2025, Aebischer was loaned byPisa, with a conditional obligation to buy.[6]

International career

Aebischer made his debut forSwitzerland national team on 18 November 2019 in aEuro 2020 qualifier againstGibraltar. He came on as a substitute forRuben Vargas in the 85th minute.[7] On 9 November 2022, he was called up for the Swiss squad for the2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar,[8] where he made one appearance as a 76th-minute substitute forDjibril Sow in the 1–0Group G loss toBrazil.[9]

On 7 June 2024, Aebischer was named in the 26-man squad for theUEFA Euro 2024.[10] On 15 June, he scored his first international goal and provided an assist in a 3–1 victory overHungary in Switzerland's opening match of the tournament.[11]
