Michael R. Shute (21 September 1951 - 3 January 2020 inHalifax, Nova Scotia) was a Canadian scholar and Professor ofReligious Studies atMemorial University of Newfoundland. He was known for his research on the works ofBernard Lonergan^{[1][2][3][4][5]} andmoral decision-making.^[6]Shute was a co-editor ofJournal of Macrodynamic Analysis.^[7]

Shute received a diagnosis ofALS. As a result, he retired from teaching in September 2019, and died on January 3, 2020.^[8]
