Michael Carson Lennox[1] is a film and televisiondirector, cinematographer, and producer fromNorthern Ireland.
Born and raised inCounty Antrim, Northern Ireland, Lennox was inspired by cinema from an early age and began to make plans for a career as a filmmaker. In 2008, he made his firstshort film, calledRip and the Preacher. The film was shown at the CalifornianCinequest Film Festival, theLA Shorts Fest and a lot of other film festivals around the world.[2] In 2010 Lennox made his Television debut with a 30-minute drama, calledEclipse, starringAndrew Buchan.Eclipse was an episode for the 8th season of the British TV seriesComing Up.[3][4]
Lennox gained a place on theMaster of Arts inFiction directing-course at theNational Film and Television School inBeaconsfield. His work at the university included the short filmThe Back of Beyond. It was screened as part of theBAFTA NFTS Stars of Tomorrow event and won theRoyal Television Society Student Television Award in thePost Graduate Section. The film also won thePianifica Award and theJunior Jury Award at theLocarno Film Festival in 2012 and was nominated for theEuropean Film Award.[5]
Furthermore, Lennox collaborated on the feature filmHives, which was selected for theSan Sebastian Film Festival[6] and was the result of aco-production project between five European film academies.[7]
In 2014 Lennox returned to his home in Northern Ireland where he directed the short filmBoogaloo and Graham, which had its world premiere at theToronto International Film Festival. In 2015,Boogaloo and Graham won aBAFTA Award forBest British Short Film and was nominated for theAcademy Award forBest Short Film, Live Action.[2] Lennox's debut featureA Patch of Fog, starringStephen Graham andConleth Hill, was released in 2015.[8][9]
In 2017, 2018, and 2021 Lennox directed all three series of theChannel 4 television sitcomDerry Girls.[10][11]
