Michael Green is an American writer and producer. In addition to writing for television, Green has written or co-written several feature film screenplays, includingLogan,Alien: Covenant,Blade Runner 2049 (all 2017) and theHercule Poirot film series (2017–present). , all released in 2017. ForLogan, which he co-wrote withJames Mangold andScott Frank, Green was nominated for anAcademy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.
Green grew up inMamaroneck, New York, the son of a real estate developer. His family isJewish, and his mother isIsraeli.[1] He attendedStanford University. After graduating, Green came back to New York and was hired for a junior development job atHBO, where he spent his workday reading other writers' scripts.[2]
Green's first television writing credit was onSex and the City. He was the creator and writer of the 2009NBC seriesKings, a drama based on the biblical story ofKing David but set in an alternate present. Other television credits also includeEverwood,Smallville,Jack and Bobby andHeroes.
In 2007, Green, along with the rest of theHeroes writing staff, was nominated for anEmmy Award forOutstanding Drama Series and theWGA Award forNew Series.Heroes won for Favorite New TV Drama at the33rd People's Choice Awards.
In 2009, Green was hired by20th Century Fox to pen an early draft ofFantastic Four withAkiva Goldsman producing.[3]
Green's feature writing career began withGreen Lantern in 2011. He wrote or co-wrote four films released in 2017:James Mangold'sLogan,Ridley Scott'sAlien: Covenant,[4]Denis Villeneuve'sBlade Runner 2049,[5] andKenneth Branagh'sMurder on the Orient Express.[6]
He developed, wrote and is an executive producer for theStarz seriesAmerican Gods withBryan Fuller. It is adapted fromNeil Gaiman'snovel of the same name.
In November 2017,Death on the Nile, an adaptation ofthe novel of the same name, was reported to be in active development with Green returning as screenwriter.[7] By February 2018, Branagh and Green were both confirmed to return as director and writer respectively.[8] More recently, he signed an overall deal withNetflix.[9] As of October 2023, he is writing a film adaptation of the acclaimed video gameBioShock for Netflix.[10] In November 2023, Green was hired to write a new script forMarvel Studios'sBlade.[11]
A contributor toDC Comics, Green is the author and co-author of several graphic novels, includingBatman: Lovers and Madmen. He co-wroteSuperman/Batman and theNew 52 reboot ofSupergirl, with Mike Johnson as well as theBlade Runner comic seriesBlade Runner 2019.
