TheMiami Canal, orC-6 Canal, flows fromLake Okeechobee in theU.S. state ofFlorida to its terminus at theMiami River, which flows through downtownMiami. Thecanal flows in a south and southeasterly direction for approximately 77 miles, and passes through three counties:Broward,Palm Beach, andMiami-Dade. It was constructed in the early part of the 20th century to drain theEverglades Agricultural Area (EAA).[citation needed] Removing the canal was proposed as part of theRestoration of the Everglades.[citation needed]
