Międzylesie[mʲɛnd͡zɨˈlɛɕɛ] (German:Mittelwalde) is a town inKłodzko County,Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in south-westernPoland.[2] It is the seat of the administrative district (gmina) calledGmina Międzylesie.
As at 2019, the town has a population of 2,575.
It is located in theKłodzko Land, on theNysa Kłodzka River,[3] close to theCzech border.
It was grantedtown rights before 1290.[4] It was ravaged by theHussites in 1428.[3] In 1590, Protestants took over the local church and appointed their preacher, but in 1625 the Catholic parish priest returned.[3] During theThirty Years' War, in 1625, the town was burned by theSwedes.[3] It was rebuilt only in 1676.[3] The local church received a painting of the Madonna, given byPope Innocent XI to KingJohn III Sobieski of Poland after hisvictory at Vienna in 1683.[3]
