Mesnali is a village inRingsaker Municipality inInnlandet county,Norway. The village is located about 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) southeast of the town ofLillehammer and about 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) southwest ofSjusjøen. Sjusjøen is an area in Norway that is very famous for its wintersports such as cross-country and downhill skiing. The area just north of Mesnali has one of the largest concentrations ofholiday cottages in all of Norway.[3]
The 0.62-square-kilometre (150-acre) town has a population (2021) of 372 and apopulation density of 603 inhabitants per square kilometre (1,560/sq mi).[1]
Mesnali is also known as the site of the grave ofSigrid Undset, a Norwegian author who was awarded theNobel prize for literature. Her portrait was on theNorwegian 500-kroner note from 1994 until 2020.
