Meryhathor orMeryt-Hathor,[2] was apharaoh of the10th Dynasty of Egypt, during theFirst Intermediate Period.
Regarded as the founder of the dynasty, Meryhathor should have begun his reign inc. 2130 BCE.[3][2]His name is not mentioned in theTurin King List butDjehutynakht II, anomarch of theHare nome residing inHermopolis, ordered an inkgraffito mentioning Meryhathor in thealabaster quarries atHatnub: this is so far the only attestation of this king.[4]
There is a dispute regarding his name: since the "Hathor" sign (C9 inGardiner's sign list) is partially damaged, some authors such asEdward Brovarski[5] believe that the real name of this pharaoh could beMeryibre ("Beloved of the heart ofRa") which is somewhat closer to theMemphite tradition. Furthermore, someEgyptologists who support the alternative reading also combine this king with his successorNeferkare VIII; thus, it is not uncommon to find a pharaohNeferkare-Meryibre as the founder of the 10th Dynasty.[6]
