Melissa Venema (born April 12, 1995, inAlkmaar) is a Dutchtrumpeter.
Venema started playingrecorder at age 6 and moved totrumpet by age 8. When she was 10, she auditioned successfully at theConservatorium van Amsterdam, training underFrits Damrow, a world-famous trumpeter. She has since performed in numerous public broadcasts, including an internationally broadcast performance ofHaydn's Trumpet Concerto in theCrystal Cathedral inGarden Grove, California.
Venema also plays on her own custom made Yamaha trumpet, and four other trumpets.[1]
Venema has won several awards[2] over the years, with more recent achievements including taking third place at theChicago International Brass Festival and several prizes in thePrincess Christina Competition. In 2010, she received the Encouragement Prize of Culture of the CityZaanstad.[3] She has also worked with the violinistAndré Rieu.[2]
