InGreek mythology, the nameMelas^{[pronunciation?]} (Ancient Greek:Μέλας,romanized: Mélas,lit. 'black, dark') refers to a number of characters.

• Melas, son ofPoseidon and an unnamednymph ofChios, brother ofAgelus.^[1] He may or may not be identical to Melas, son of Poseidon, who was said to have given his name to the river Melas inEgypt, which was later renamedNile.^[2]
• Melas, aCalydonian prince as one of the sons of KingPorthaon andEuryte, and thus, brother ofOeneus,Agrius,Alcathous,Leucopeus andSterope.^[3] He was the father ofPheneus,Euryalus,Hyperlaus,Antiochus,Eumedes,Sternops,Xanthippus andSthenelaus, who were all slain byTydeus for plotting against their uncleOeneus.^[4]
• Melas, a son ofPhrixus andChalciope.^[5] ByEurycleia, daughter ofAthamas andThemisto, he became the father ofHyperes.^[6]
• Melas, son ofLicymnius. He and his brother Argius accompaniedHeracles in his campaign againstEurytus, and both fell in the battle.^[7]
• Melas, son ofOenopion^[1] and possibly thenymphHelice.^[8] He was the brother ofTalus,Euanthes,Salagus,Athamas andMerope (Aero). He, together with his father and brothers, sailed fromCrete toChios and settled there.^[1]
• Melas, son ofAntasus, fromGonusa nearSicyon. He expressed desire to join theDorians in their expedition againstCorinth.Aletes consulted the oracle ofApollo about him; the god expressed disapproval, and Aletes at first told Melas to go and search for other allies among the Greeks, but then changed his mind and, neglecting the prophecy, let him join. Melas was the ancestor ofCypselus.^[9]
• Melas, son ofOps.Athena assumed his shape to persuadeTeuthis not to withdraw his army fromAulis. Teuthis, outraged, hit whom he took for Melas with a spear and did return home. Later, he saw the wounded goddess in a dream; he was then struck with a wasting disease, and his country suffered from famine.^[10]
• Melas, one of theTyrrhenian pirates who attempted to deludeDionysus but were transformed into dolphins by him.^[11]
