Mekhi Wingo (born April 17, 2003) is an American professionalfootballdefensive tackle for theDetroit Lions of theNational Football League (NFL). He playedcollege football for theMissouri Tigers and theLSU Tigers. Wingo was selected by the Lions in the sixth round of the2024 NFL draft.
Wingo attendedDe Smet Jesuit High School inCreve Coeur, Missouri. As a senior, he was the MissouriGatorade Football Player of the Year after recording 54 tackles and five sacks.[2] He committed to theUniversity of Missouri to play college football.[3]
As a true freshman at Missouri in 2021, Wingo played in 11 games with three starts and had 27 tackles, one sack and oneinterception he returned for atouchdown.[4] After the season, he transferred toLouisiana State University (LSU).[5] As a sophomore, in his first year at LSU he started 12 of 13 games, recording 47 tackles and three sacks.[6][7] He was a second team All-SEC selection and named a third-teamAll-American by theAssociated Press in 2022.[8]
As a junior he dealt with injuries missing five games, still totaling 25 tackles and 4.5 sacks in eight games. Following the season he declared for the2024 NFL draft.[9]
