Ameat-free sausage roll (also known as avegetarian sausage roll orvegan sausage roll) is asavoury pastry snack that contains a non-meat filling. The snack is an alternative to the conventionalsausage roll that generally contains pork or beef. Meat-free sausage rolls are sold at retail outlets and are also available frombakeries as atake-away food.
The basic composition of a meat-free sausage roll is sheets ofpuff pastry formed into tubes around ameat substitute filling, before being baked. Common meat substitutes used to create the meatless sausage in a meat-free sausage roll includepea protein,mushrooms,soy products,lentils,quinoa, andbeans.[1]

In the UK in 2019, the bakery chainGreggs launched a meat-free sausage roll[4][5] made using themycoprotein mixtureQuorn.[6] It became one of the company's five best-selling products, and contributed to a 50% increase in their profits.[7]
