MeBeam was avideo chat website that allowed any user to createvideoconference rooms for up to 16 people. MeBeam did not require registration, login or any software download.
The site was launched by Ashod Apakian in November 2007 as a web-based demo of a research application he was working on. The goal was to create the world's fastestvideotelephony site.[1] It gained popularity after aplugin was developed to provide multi-party videoconferencing forAdium in August 2008, after being featured onDigg.[2]
The site was also featured onChris Pirillo, at which point it gained widespread usage.[3]
The website usedAdobe SystemsFlash Player to display video and access the user'swebcam. It works acrossWindows,Linux andMacintosh, along with any web browser supportsFlash 8.[citation needed]
