Matthew Wilfred Appleby (born 16 April 1972 inMiddlesbrough) is an English formerfootballmidfielder who retired in 2008. He played in thePremier League withBarnsley[citation needed] and had a distinguished spell atDarlington,[citation needed] before dropping into non-League and eventually leaving football to become a deep-sea diver.[2]
