Matthieu Dreyer (born 20 March 1989) is a French professionalfootballer who has played as agoalkeeper forLigue 1 clubStrasbourg.

Club career

Dreyer began his career inAlsace playing for local club AS Ernolsheim/Bruche.[citation needed] In 2003, he moved to the famousSochaux academy. During his youth career with Sochaux, he won theCoupe Gambardella in 2007.[citation needed] Dreyer was listed as the third goalkeeper for the2007–08 season and appeared on the bench several times including twoUEFA Cup matches, though he did not make an appearance.[citation needed] He signed his first professional contract following the season agreeing to a three-year deal.[1] Dreyer was officially promoted to the senior squad and given the number 30 shirt, the typical number for the third-choice goalkeeper in France.[citation needed]

For much of the2008–09 season, Dreyer played in theCFA helping the Sochaux reserves finish a respectable 6th.[citation needed] He made his professional debut on 28 February 2009 starting in goal, ahead of second choiceJérémy Gavanon, for the injuredTeddy Richert againstNice.[citation needed] For his efforts, Dreyer earned aclean sheet in a 1–0 victory withVáclav Svěrkoš scoring the lone goal.[2]

In 2012, after one season in theChampionnat National, he joinedTroyes as a second-choice keeper.[3] He agreed to the termination of his contract in August 2016.[4]

In July 2020, Dreyer joinedLorient, newly promoted toLigue 1, on a free transfer, having agreed on a three-year contract.[5]

On 23 August 2022, Dreyer signed forLigue 2 sideSaint-Étienne on a two-year contract.[6]

International career

Dreyer has been aFrance international since age 12 when he earned caps with his local regional sides,Bas-Rhin andAlsace, in the Predator Cup. He has featured with theU-15s,U-16s,U-17s, and theU-18s. On 25 May 2009, he was selected to theunder-20 squad to participate in the2009 Mediterranean Games.
