Matthew Guillaumier (Maltese pronunciation:[ˈɡʊlːɐjmɪːr]; born 9 April 1998) is a Maltese professionalfootballer who plays as amidfielder forGreek Super League clubPanserraikos and theMalta national team.[3]
Guillaumier began his youth career withSt. Andrews at the age of five. On 26 April 2013, he made his debut for the senior team in aFirst Division match againstGudja United, aged only 15 years and 17 days. In the match he played alongside his uncle, midfielder Joseph Farrugia. In September 2013, after trials with English clubsBirmingham City andWest Bromwich Albion, he joined the youth academy of Italian clubEmpoli, with whom he had trained regularly in the year prior.[4]
In 2015, he returned toSt. Andrews, making sixteen appearances in theMaltese Premier League. In January 2016, he moved toBirkirkara on a 4.5-year contract, lasting until 2020.[5] On the 29 September 2020 he moved to Ħamrun Spartans for a record fee in Malta of €300,000.[6] In the same season, after winning his firstMaltese Premier League title,[7] he received the award asMaltese Player of the Year.[8]
On 31 January 2022, Guillaumier joinedSiena in the Italian third-tierSerie C on loan with an option to buy.[9]
On 13 July 2023, PolishEkstraklasa sideStal Mielec announced the signing of Guillaumier on a two-year deal, with an option for another season.[10]
On 20 June 2025, Guillaumier signed a two-year contract with Greek clubPanserraikos.[11]
Guillaumier was included in thesquad of hostsMalta for the2014 UEFA European Under-17 Championship. He appeared in all three matches, with the team eliminated in the group stage.[12] He made his international debut forMalta on 23 March 2019, starting in aUEFA Euro 2020 qualifying home match against theFaroe Islands, which finished as a 2–1 home win.[13] The match was Malta's first competitive home win, as well as their firstUEFA European Championship qualifying win, since October 2006.[14][15]
