Matt Schwartz (born 26 October 1971) is an Israeli-British record producer, songwriter, composer, arranger, programmer, audio engineer, and DJ. He describes himself onhis X profile as a "Proud Zionist".

Early life

Schwartz was born inIsrael and moved toLondon in the early 1990s. He attendedKingston University and began working at the Hit-House inHammersmith in 1994, collaborating with artists such asFarley "Jackmaster" Funk, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Matt Jam, and Carl Brown. During this time, he also produced records with James F. Reynolds.[1]

Career

From 1996 to 1998, Schwartz worked at BeatFarm Studios, producing records for Massive Attack, Arthur Baker, Sara J, Tall Paul, and others.[2][3][4][5] In 1998, Schwartz shifted focus to his career as an artist and producer. He founded Destined Records in 2000 for his own releases and co-founded Blackgold Recordings with Gil Goldberg andMuff Winwood.[6]

In 2005, Schwartz performed at the Paris Techno Parade as The Drill.[7] He subsequently has played many gigs under his 'The Drill Sound System' and 'DADA Sound System' and with his Deepest Blue Project.[8] Schwartz has had music featured in films such asThe Jackal andThe Matrix, and has released music under various aliases, including M'Black, DADA, The Drill, 4tune500, and Deepest Blue.[9][10][11][12][13][14] From 2004 to 2007, his composition ofShooting Star was the theme tune forSky Sports.[15]

In 2009, Schwartz collaborated with Trevor Horn, Olly Murs, Lol Creme, and Robbie Williams. He reached No. 1 on the Billboard Dance Airplay chart in 2010 withM'Black and topped Dutch charts in 2011 with "Bang It All" as Dada & Mastiksoul featuringAkon.[citation needed] In 2012, he co-wroteKylie Minogue's "Timebomb." His track "Crush" reached No. 1 on the US dance charts in 2013.[16]

In 2014, Schwartz co-wrote and producedMadison Beer's "Unbreakable" andCheryl Cole's"Only Human."[17] He also contributed toSelah Sue's albumReason and worked with artists such asUnion J,Ruen Brothers,Holychild, andPitbull. In 2015, "Outlines" byMike Mago featuringDragonette reached No. 8 on the UK Singles Chart. Schwartz also collaborated withAll Tvvins on their debut album[18] andNERVO onCollateral, co-producing tracks including "The Other Boys" featuring Minogue,Jake Shears, andNile Rodgers, as well asAvicii's "You're Gonna Love Again."[19]

In 2016, Schwartz co-wrote and produced Selah Sue's "Fear Nothing," which won the North Vision Song Contest inZurich. In 2018, he producedYungblud's self-titled EP[20] andPeking Duk's "Wasted." Schwartz co-produced Yungblud'sThe Underrated Youth EP in 2019, which entered the UK charts at No. 6, and also worked on the singles "Loner" and "11 Minutes featuringHalsey andTravis Barker.[21]

In 2020, Schwartz co-produced and co-wrote Yungblud's second album,Weird!, which topped the UK charts. He produced and co-wrote "Patience" byKSI featuring Yungblud andPolo G in 2021, which reached No. 1 on the UK Big Top 40.[22] In 2022, he worked on Yungblud's third album, including singles "Tissues" and "Don't Feel Like Feeling Sad Today."[23][24]
