Matal, also known asMuktele andBalda, is anAfro-Asiatic language spoken in northernCameroon.[1]

The Matal inhabit the western edge of theMandara Mountains, from the Parékwa massif southwards to the Méri. They also live the neighboring plain ofMayo-Ranéo (Baldama andZouelva cantons inMora arrondissement,Mayo-Sava department, Far North Region). They number 18,000 people.[2]
