Matías Emanuel Godoy (born 10 January 2002) is an Argentine professionalfootballer who plays as aforward forInstituto, on loan fromEstudiantes de La Plata.[3]
Godoy's career began with Club Central Argentino Olímpico, before he was signed byAtlético de Rafaela in 2011.[1]
He was moved in their senior squad in April 2018 at the age of sixteen, subsequently being selected for his professional debut by interim managerVíctor Bottaniz [es] on 16 April during a home defeat toQuilmes inPrimera B Nacional; he was substituted on in place ofJorge Velázquez with twenty-two minutes remaining.[3][4][5] Godoy netted his first goal in April 2019 againstIndependiente Rivadavia.[6]
On 12 February 2020, Godoy joinedPrva HNL clubDinamo Zagreb on loan.[7] He never appeared competitively for their first-team, instead featuring for theirreserve team in thesecond tier.[3] Godoy made appearances againstOrijent 1919,Hrvatski Dragovoljac andSesvete–all off the bench–before the season's early end due to theCOVID-19 pandemic.[3]
In September 2020, Godoy completed a six-month loan move toArgentine Primera División sideArgentinos Juniors with a purchase option.[8] He was later bought free from Rafaela in the beginning of 2021. On 19 August 2021, Godoy was loaned out toPrimera Nacional clubInstituto until the end of the year.[9] In February 2022, he joinedTalleres de Córdoba on a one-year loan deal.[10]
On 26 December 2022, Godoy was transferred toEstudiantes de La Plata in exchange for $700,000 for 50% of his contract,Argentinos Juniors kept the other 50% of his contract in the case of a future sale. Godoy debuted with Estudiantes on 28 January 2023, againstClub Atlético Tigre in a 2–1 loss in which he played all 90 minutes. His first goal with Estudiantes was in the 9th minute of Matchday 2 againstArsenal de Sarandí on 4 February 2023, which ended in a 1–1 tie.
Godoy represented Argentina's U15s at the2017 South American Championship, scoring four goals as Argentina won the tournament.[1][11] In 2018, Godoy was called up to theArgentina U17s for a tournament in Mexico City withChile,Mexico and theUnited States.[12][13] He featured for sixty-eight minutes and scored the opening goal of a 2–1 victory over the United States on 4 October.[3] Godoy madePablo Aimar's squad in March 2019 for theSouth American U-17 Championship in Peru, before being selected byDiego Placente for the2019 Granatkin Memorial months later.[14][15] He'd play five times and score once, versus Iran, as they won the cup.[16]
In October 2019, Godoy was called up for the2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Brazil.[17] He scored on his second tournament appearance againstCameroon at theEstádio Kléber Andrade on 31 October.[3]
