Masku (Finnish pronunciation:[ˈmɑsku]) is amunicipality ofFinland. It is located in theprovince ofWestern Finland and is part of theSouthwest Finlandregion. The municipality, which is located about 17 kilometres (11 mi) just north ofTurku, has a population of 9,628(30 June 2025)[2] and covers an area of 204.01 square kilometres (78.77 sq mi) ofwhich 29.21 km2 (11.28 sq mi)is water.[1] Thepopulation density is55.05 inhabitants per square kilometre (142.6/sq mi).
The municipality is unilinguallyFinnish. The municipality has also been known as "Masko" inSwedish. The Swedish name no longer has official status, and is considered outdated according to theInstitute for the Languages of Finland.[5]
On January 1, 2009 the municipalities ofAskainen andLemu were consolidated with Masku.

Masku is one of the oldest parishes in Finland, having been established in the 13th century. It includedMerimasku until 1577, when it was transferred toNaantali.[6] The people of Masku also once held hunting grounds in the Turku archipelago, as evidenced by the toponymMaskinnamo (originally*Maskun Innanmaa) inKorpo. There is also a village calledMaskulainen in bothRymättylä andLemu, suggesting that the first settlers of those villages came from Masku.[7]
Lemu andAskainen were consolidated with Masku in 2009. Masku adopted Askainen's coat of arms after the merger.
The most famous resident of Masku is Finnish tennis playerJarkko Nieminen. Well known football players from Masku includeKasper Hämäläinen,Riku Riski andRoope Riski.BaronC. G. E. Mannerheim, field marshal and 6thPresident of Finland was born inLouhisaari Manor of Askainen in 1867.[8]
