Masakará is an extinct language related toKamakã. It is one of theMacro-Jê languages ofBrazil.[1] It was once spoken south of the city ofJuazeiro and at the old mission ofSaco dos Morcegos (present-day Mirandela,Banzaê, nearRibeira do Pombal,Bahia State).[2]
The district of Massacará inEuclides da Cunha, Bahia is named after the tribe.
Martins (2007)[3] classifies Masakará as the most divergent of theKamakã languages.
