Martin Millar is a Scottish writer fromGlasgow who is now resident in London. Under the pseudonymMartin Scott he has authored theThraxas series of fantasy novels, for the eponymous inaugural volume of which he won theWorld Fantasy Award for best novel.

Overview

The novels he writes under his own name focus uponurban decay and Britishsubcultures, and the impact these have on a range of characters, both realistic and supernatural. There are elements ofmagical realism. Some of them are set inBrixton, Millar's one-time place of residence; many are at least semi-autobiographical, andLove and Peace with Melody Paradise andSuzy, Led Zeppelin and Me both feature Millar himself as a character.

His Thraxas novels combinesecondary world fantasy andpulp noirthriller. In 2000, he received theWorld Fantasy Award for best for the first installment,Thraxas.[1]
