Marshchapel is a coastal village andcivil parish in theEast Lindseydistrict ofLincolnshire, England. It is approximately 11 miles (18 km) south-east fromGrimsby and 13 miles (21 km) north-east fromLouth. It includes the hamlets of West End and Eskham.[2]
Marshchapel has a village store cumpost office, aprimary school, and nopublic houses that are currently open,[3]
The church, dedicated toSt Mary is a Grade Ilisted building dating from the 15th century with achancel dating from 1848.[4][5] St Mary's is often referred to as the "Cathedral of the Marshes". In the churchyard is a cross dating from the 14th century which was originally sited at the crossroads near West End. It is both Grade II listed and ascheduled monument.[4][6]
Marshchapel Primary School was originally built as aNational School and was rebuilt in 1872, and has been known by its current name since September 1999.[7]
Marshchapel was the site of Anglo-Saxon salt-working.[8]
Anelectoral ward in the same name exists. This ward stretches south west toYarburgh with a total population taken at the 2011 Census of 2,194.[9]
