Marcos Vinícius dos Santos Gonçalves (born 24 May 1979), known asMarquinhos Santos, is a Brazilianfootballcoach. He is the current head coach ofSuper League clubArema.

Managerial career

Born inSantos,São Paulo, Santos played youth football forSantos FC as amidfielder, but never played professionally. In 1999 he moved toCuritiba, and started working in a small football school in the city called Sociedade Morgenau.[1]

In 2003, Santos joinedAtlético Paranaense, being in charge of the youth squads until 2009, when he joinedCoritiba's under-20 squad.[2] In 2011 he was appointed manager of theBrazil under-15 national team, and took over theunder-17s in the following year, afterEmerson Ávila was in charge of theunder-20s.

On 6 September 2012, Santos returned to Coritiba, now being appointed first team manager after the dismissal ofMarcelo Oliveira.[3] He was dismissed roughly one year later,[4] and was replaced byPéricles Chamusca.

Santos was announced as manager ofBahia on 12 December 2013,[5] but was sacked the following 26 July after nine winless matches.[6] On 24 August, he returned toCoxa,[7] and managed toavoid relegation with the club.

Santos was appointed as manager ofVasco da Gama on 10 December 2014, but decided not to take over to family issues and remained at Coritiba.[8] On 8 June of the following year, he was relieved from his duties at the latter club, after four consecutive defeats.[9]

Santos spent the following three seasons managing clubs in theSérie B and in theSérie C, such asFortaleza,Figueirense,[10]Paysandu,[11]Londrina,[12]São Bento[13] andJuventude.[14] On 16 September 2019, he returned to the top tier after being named manager ofChapecoense, seriously threatened with relegation.[15]

Santos returned toJu for the 2020 season, but was relieved of his duties on 16 March 2020 after a poor start.[16] On 4 February 2021, he returned to Juventude for a third spell.[17]

Santos was dismissed by Juventude on 18 October 2021,[18] after five winless matches, and took over fellow top-tier sideAmérica Mineiro just hours later.[19] He left the latter on a mutual agreement on 11 April, with just one league match into the new season.[20]

On 12 June 2022, Santos was announced as manager ofCeará, also in the top tier.[21] He was sacked on 14 August, after 17 matches.[22]

On 1 May 2023, after nearly nine months without a club, Santos returned to Paysandu in the third level,[23] but was sacked on 28 June.[24] On 4 August, he replacedClaudinei Oliveira at the helm ofVila Nova in the second division,[25] but was himself dismissed on 20 September.[26]

On 24 October 2023, Santos was announced as head coach ofAmérica de Natal.[27] Despite winning the 2024Campeonato Potiguar, he left by mutual consent the following 9 September[28]

On 28 September 2024, Santos was named head coach ofNáutico.[29] He was dismissed the following 14 April, after a 2–1 loss toItabaiana.[30]

On 26 June 2025, Santos officially become a coach for Indonesian clubArema.[31]
