Mario Gila Fuentes (born 29 August 2000) is a Spanish professionalfootballer who plays as acentre-back forSerie A clubLazio.
Born inBarcelona,Catalonia, Gila is a youth product of various clubs in his native region, including Santa Perpètua,Sabadell, Mollet,Damm andEspanyol. He moved toReal Madrid's youth academy in 2018, signing a contract until 2024.[1] He was promoted to their reserves in 2019 where he became their stalwart and vice captain underRaúl.[2]
Gila made his professional debut with the seniorReal Madrid squad in a 4–0La Liga win overEspanyol, coming on as a substitute in the 75th minute.[3]
On 12 July 2022,Serie A clubLazio announced Gila's signing from Real Madrid for €6 million.[4] On 30 October 2022, Gila made his Serie A debut for Lazio in a match againstSalernitana, which ended in a 3–1 loss for Lazio.[5]
On 28 November 2023, Gila made hisChampions League debut, playing the full match in Lazio's 2–0group stage victory againstCeltic atOlimpico di Roma.[6]
Gila was called up to a preliminarySpain U19 training camp before the2019 UEFA European Under-19 Championship.[7]
On 20 March 2025, Gila was called up to the seniorSpain squad for the second leg of thequarterfinal round of the Nations League against theNetherlands afterPau Cubarsí's injury in the first leg.[8]
