Marie Sherlock is an IrishLabour Party politician who has been aTeachta Dála (TD) for theDublin Central constituency since the2024 general election. She previously served as aSenator on theLabour Panel from 2020 to 2024.[1][2]

Early life and education

Sherlock is fromCarrignavar,County Cork. She attended Colaiste An Chroi Naofa before graduating with aBachelor of Arts in Economics and Political Science fromTrinity College Dublin, aMaster of Arts in Economics fromUniversity College Dublin, and aMaster of Philosophy in Land Economy from theUniversity of Cambridge.[3]

Political career

She represented theCabra-Glasnevin local electoral area onDublin City Council from 2019 to 2020,[4] and was the party's Head of Manifesto Development.[5]

At the2020 Seanad election, she was elected toSeanad Éireann on theLabour Panel.[6]

She was also a researcher for theParty of European Socialists in theEuropean Parliament and was a trade union official and economic advisor toSIPTU for over 10 years.

On July 2024, Sherlock was selected by theLabour Party to contest theDublin Central constituency at the2024 general election.[7] Sherlock secured the final seat available at the expense ofGerry Hutch.[8]

Personal life

She lives inPhibsborough with her husband Ciarán and their three children.[9] Her uncleJoe Sherlock, and his son (Marie's cousin)Seán Sherlock, were also Labour TDs.[10]
