Margarornis is agenus ofpasserine birds in the ovenbirdfamilyFurnariidae. They are found in South andMiddle America. All four species in the genus have "treerunner" in their English name.

Taxonomy

The genusMargarornis was introduced in 1853 by the German naturalistLudwig Reichenbach.[1] The name combines theAncient Greekmargaron meaning "pearl" withornis meaning "bird".[2] Thetype species was designated byGeorge Robert Gray in 1855 asSittasomus perlatusLesson. This taxon is now considered to be asubspecies of thepearled treerunner (Margarornis squamiger perlatus).[3][4]

Thewhite-throated treerunner is placed in themonotypic genusPygarrhichas.[5]
