Marc López Tarrés (Catalan:[ˈmaɾɡˈlɔpəθtəˈres],Spanish:[ˈmaɾɣˈlopeθtaˈres]; born 31 July 1982) is a Spanishtennis coach and a former professional player. His career-highATPranking was world No. 3 in doubles, achieved in January 2013 and No. 106, achieved in May 2004.
Partnering withFeliciano López, Marc López won amajor title at the2016 French Open as well as the2012 ATP Finals withMarcel Granollers. Additionally, at the2016 Rio Olympics, López won thegold medal in men's doubles forSpain partnering withRafael Nadal.
Previously, he wasRafael Nadal's coach and from April to July 2025 he coachedJasmine Paolini, helping her in winning the2025 Italian Open.
In his ATP debut at Stuttgart as a qualifier ranked 236, López defeatedRichard Fromberg, eventual French Open finalistGuillermo Coria, two-time French Open winnerSergi Bruguera, and Alberto Martín en route to the semifinals, where he lost toGuillermo Cañas.
Although in his beginnings López did not achieve very good results playing doubles, in the last years he has won several doubles titles inChallengers and his best performance in an ATP tournament was in this modality. That was in 2004, when he reached the final of theOpen de Tenis Comunidad Valenciana partnering with his friend and countrymanFeliciano López.
In April 2008 inBarcelona, López beat No. 141Yuri Schukin to qualify into the ATP main draw, where he beat No. 68Ivo Minář before losing to No. 37Juan Ignacio Chela.In May, he made the main draw of the2008 French Open as alucky loser after beating No. 124Andreas Beck.
In 2010, López won three doubles titles, including the Masters 1000 at Indian Wells partnering withRafael Nadal. They defeatedDaniel Nestor and SerbianNenad Zimonjić in the final. López made the year-end finals with his frequent partnerMarcel Granollers. They won the tournament, defeating the Indian duo ofMahesh Bhupathi andRohan Bopanna in the final.
In 2012, López andRafael Nadal, again won the doubles final atIndian Wells, defeating AmericansJohn Isner andSam Querrey. He and Granollers also won the Masters 1000 in Rome, beatingŁukasz KubotandJanko Tipsarević in the final. In Toronto, they were defeated in the final by theBryan brothers.
In 2013, they only made one final, inCincinnati, where they again fell to the Bryan brothers.
In 2014, López and Granollers made two Grand Slam finals. At the French Open they were defeated by French duoÉdouard Roger-Vasselin andJulien Benneteau. At the US Open, they lost the final to theBryan brothers.
In 2015, they again made the Masters 1000 final in Rome, but were defeated byPablo Cuevas and fellow SpaniardDavid Marrero.
In 2016, López teamed with countrymanFeliciano López to win the tournament in Doha, Qatar, and they also made a runner-up showing in Dubai. López won his first major at the2016 French Open with Feliciano López.[3]
In2016 Rio Olympics he teamed up withRafael Nadal to win the gold medal in the men's doubles event.[4][5]
On 6 September 2016 at the2016 US Open, López was part of the last match ever played at the oldLouis Armstrong Stadium. Alongside his partnerFeliciano López, they defeatedthe Bryan brothers (Bob andMike) in the quarterfinals of the men's doubles tournament, the score 7–6(7–2), 4–6, 6–3.[6] The pair then lost in the semifinals against fellow countrymenPablo Carreño Busta andGuillermo García López in straight sets.
In 2017, they made another Masters 1000 final in Monte Carlo, but were defeated byPablo Cuevas andRohan Bopanna.
At the2017 US Open, Marc and Feliciano went one step further than the previous year by again defeating the Bryan brothers en route to the final where they lost toJean-Julien Rojer andHoria Tecău.
In December 2021, López joined Nadal's coaching team.[7][8]
Lopez announced he would retire after the2022 Barcelona Open.[8] There, he partneredFeliciano López where they defeated the top ranked pair of world No. 1Joe Salisbury and world No. 2Rajeev Ram in the first round.[1][9] However, he then received a wildcard for theMadrid Masters to partnerCarlos Alcaraz in doubles.[2] The pair lost in the round of 16 to the eventual championsWesley Koolhof andNeal Skupski.[10] His final match was in2024 Brisbane International, he came out of his retirement to play withRafael Nadal for the very last time.[citation needed]
López became coach of Olympic gold medalistJasmine Paolini in April 2025.[11][12]

He married his girlfriend María S. in November 2015, after a four-year relationship. The couple separated in 2017.[13]
In August 2021, López welcomed his first child with María García-Planas Albert, a former college tennis player at theLoyola Marymount University.[14][15]
