InCroatian, the village has two names:Marača, used by residents ofDrávakeresztúr, andMaroč, used inFelsőszentmárton.[2]

The origin of the nameMarócsa is uncertain, but it may derive from a word in one of theSouth Slavic languages with a similar form.[3]
