Manzoor Ahmad Mengal (Urdu:منظور احمد مینگلc. 1963) is aPakistaniSunniDeobandiIslamic scholar fromBalochistan, who serves as theSheikh al-Hadīṯh at theJamia Siddiqia andJamia Farooqia.[3]
He is a supporter ofJamiat Ulema-e Islam (F).[4]
Born into aBaloch family, Mengal received his early education at a government school. In 1973, he enrolled at amadrasa in his home village. After completing his study of theQuran, he moved toTando Muhammad Khan in 1979 and joined the Darul Uloom Muhammadiya Madrasa. He later continued his studies atJamia Farooqia inKarachi, specializing in the field ofHadith studies.[5]
Mengal served as animam at Jamia Farooqia for 28 years. During his tenure, he is reported to have led the recitation of the entire Quran 28 times duringobligatory prayers.[3]
In 1992, he completed aPhD from theUniversity of Sindh in a period of two months, under the supervision ofNizamuddin Shamzai. He also memorizedSahih Bukhari during a stay inSaudi Arabia, a feat he accomplished in a month and a half. Mengal ismultilingual, with proficiency inBalochi,Brahui,Pashto,Urdu,Arabic, andPersian.[4]
In 2021, following the annualAurat March on International Women's Day, Mengal repeated allegations of blasphemy propagated byanti-feminist elements in Pakistan.[6]
