Mansukhlal Atmaram Master (1884–1970) was an Indian shipping professional, writer and the general manager ofScindia Steam Navigation Company, one of the oldest shipping companies in India.[1] Born in 1884 and a lawyer by profession, he was reported to have been a trusted associate ofWalchand Hirachand, the founder of the company.[2] He was one of the delegates who represented the Government of India at theSafety of Life at Sea international convention which prescribed safety measures for the maritime industry and was an electedplenipotentiary at the convention.[1] He was the Vice- President of the All-India Organisation of Industrial Employers[3] and was the author of several publications on shipping and economy,[4] includingResources for the Third Plan[5] andSo I Rest on My Oars.[6] The Government of India awarded him the third highest civilian honour of thePadma Bhushan, in 1968, for his contributions to Indian shipping industry.[7]
