Mahavir Singh Rathore (16 September 1904 — 17 May 1933) was an Indian revolutionary and independence fighter in the 1930s.[1][2][3][4] Singh was a member ofNaujawan Bharat Sabha. He helped in the escape ofBhagat Singh,Batukeshwar Dutt andDurgawati Devi from Mozang House inLahore.[3] He was arrested as part of theSecond Lahore Conspiracy Case and took part in thehunger strike of 1933 to protest the treatment of prisoners along withMohit Moitra (convicted inArms Act Case),Mohan Kishore Namadas (also convicted in Arms Act Case). and 30 others. Singh died on 17 May 1933 due toforce feeding.Mohit Moitra andMohan Kishore Namadas alsodied during the hunger strike.[1][4][2] A statue was erected in front of theCellular Jail in his honor.
Mahavir Singh was born inRajput (Thakur) family on Shahpur Tahla in Kasganj District (thentehsil of district Etah) ofUttar Pradesh on 16 September 1904. His father was Debi Singh.[4] He became involved in revolutionary activity while studying inDAV College, Kanpur.[3]
