Maasia is a genus offlowering plants belonging to the familyAnnonaceae.[1]
Its native range isIndo-China toNew Guinea. It is found in Andaman Islands, Borneo, Java, Malaya, Maluku Islands, Myanmar, Nicobar Islands, Philippines, Sulawesi, Sumatera and Thailand.[1]
The genus name ofMaasia is in honour ofPaul Maas (born 1939), a botanist from the Netherlands and a specialist in the flora of theneotropics.[2] It was first described and published inSyst. Bot. Vol. 33 on page 493 in 2008.[1] The nameMosannona Chatrou (1998), Annonaceae, was also named after him.
