Protein-coding gene in the species Homo sapiens
Myosin light chain 5 is aprotein that, inhumans, is encoded by theMYL5gene.[3]
This gene encodes one of themyosin light chains, a component of thehexamericATPase cellularmotor proteinmyosin. Myosin is composed of twoheavy chains, twononphosphorylatablealkali light chains, and two phosphorylatableregulatory light chains. Thisgene product, one of the regulatory light chains, isexpressed infetal muscle and inadult retina, cerebellum, andbasal ganglia.
