MVStena Vinga is aroll-on/roll-offferry operated byDFDS Seaways on charter fromStena Line on routes connectingJersey in theChannel Islands toPortsmouth,England andSaint-Malo,France.
MVStena Vinga was built in the style ofVan der Giessen de Noord's vessels, alongside her sister shipDueodde, now namedIslander. She was first namedHammerodde byBornholmstrafikken. Since then, she has seen service withStena Line asStena Vinga inSweden,Germany,Latvia andFrance, before being chartered toAML and now toDFDS Seaways[2].
The vessel will be deployed onJersey toPortsmouth andSt Malo routes forDFDS Seaways from March 2025.[3]
Stena Vinga entered service withBornholmstrafikken in 2005 as MVHammerodde. She operated routes linkingKoge,Ronne andYstad, also completing some services betweenRonne andSassnitz[4]. After this, in 2010 she was refit and rebuilt atSTX Europe,Helsinki adding an additional freight deck aft of her superstructure. As well as, a 5m long ducktail sponson and new rudders and propellers.[5] She was sold toStena Line in 2017, before starting operations in September 2018.[6]
In 2017, the vessel was sold toStena RoRo and chartered toDanske Færger until Autumn 2018 where she entered service withStena Line[7] and was renamed MVStena Vinga. She first connectedGothenburg toFrederikshavn,Travemunde andLiepaja,Gdynia andKarlskrona. In 2020 she covered for theStena Horizon which was released for cover on theHolyhead toDublin route. On March 21st 2021 she returned to serve theGothenburg toFrederikshavn route and had the last service on March 26th 2021. She servicedTravemunde andLiepaja for 4 months before switching to different routes every few months. From December 18th 2022 to January 26th 2023, she covered forStena Danica whilst it was being refitted. On March 1st 2023 she covered for Stena Germanica until March 17th 2023. In June 2023, it is believed that she was chartered toAML. After coming back from her charter, she covered many routes for other ships such asStena Danica again andStena Nautica,Stena Jutlandica,Skane andStena Baltica.[8]
On June 14th 2023, she arrived inAlgeciras for trials there and inTanger Med. From June 23rd 2023,AML deployed her on a route fromAlgeciras toTanger Med until mid August 2023.[9]
On December 16th afterDFDS Seaways won Jersey's ferry bid tender,[10] they announced they would charter theStena Vinga.[11] She was then sent to Oresund Drydocks inLandskrona to be refitted in January 2025. In early March 2025, she travelled toPortsmouth for trials. On March 18th 2025, she travelled toSt Helier Harbour to complete berthing trials. As of March 28th 2025, she is now on a route connectingPortsmouth toJersey and sometimes onwards toSt Malo.[12]

Theroll-on/roll-off ferry has an overall length of 129.9 meters, a beam of 23.4 m and a draft of 5.6 m, the gross tonnage amounts 14,551 GT. The machinery consists of twoMaK 9M32 diesel 8640 kW (38,500 HP) allowing a maximum service speed of 18.5 knots (34.3 km/h; 21.3 mph). 400 passengers and 200 cars can be accommodated on board.[5]
The only issue seen by theStena Vinga during her service has been when she leftKoge in March 2015, she went off course and damaged one of her propellers. She was escorted back toKoge for an underwater examination and travelled toLandskrona for repairs.[8]
