MJ Delaney is a British director. She is known for her work onTed Lasso, for which she won aPrimetime Emmy Award in 2022.
Delaney was born inLondon and graduated fromOxford University in 2007.[1] She found early success in 2010 by makinga parody of the music video for "Empire State of Mind", with the song rewritten to praise the Welsh town ofNewport. The video's viral popularity led to her work directing well-received ads for organizations such asAldi andPlan International. She also directed an episode ofComing Up.[2] Her feature-film debut,Powder Room, was released in 2013.[1]
Delaney worked withSharon Horgan andMorgana Robinson on the short programmeMorgana Robinson's Summer, which won aBAFTA Award in 2018.[3] She later directed the final two episodes of the first season ofTed Lasso, receiving an Emmy nomination for "The Hope That Kills You".[4][5] Delaney returned forTed Lasso's second season and won an Emmy for directing the episode "No Weddings and a Funeral".[6] Delaney was part of the directing team of theDisney+ showRenegade Nell, which premiered on 29 March 2024 on the streaming service.[7]
