Mônica Angélica de Paula (born 4 April 1978), or simplyMônica, is a Brazilian retiredfootballer who played as adefender. She was a member of theBrazilian National Team that won the silver medal at the2004 Summer Olympics.

Born inSão Paulo, Mônica only began playing football in 1999. Before, she used to practicebasketball — even played withAdrianinha andKelly of thebasketball national team — andvolleyball, which she abandoned after a pregnancy. In her pro career, she also played forSão Paulo, Matonense andAraraquara.[1][2]

At thetraining camp for the2000 Summer Olympics, Mônicafought with teammateDaniela. The confrontation was attributed topremenstrual syndrome.[3]
