Máel Muire ingen Cináeda was a daughter ("ingen") ofKenneth MacAlpin (Cináed mac Ailpin),King of Dal Riáta.[1] She married two important Irish kings of theUí Néill.[2]
Her first husband wasÁed Findliath (r. 862–879), of theCenél nEógain,King of Ailech andHigh King of Ireland.[3]Niall Glúndub, ancestor of theO'Neill dynasty, was the son of this marriage.[4]
Her second husband wasFlann Sinna ofClann Cholmáin, King ofMide and alsoHigh King of Ireland.[5][6] As the daughter, wife and mother of kings, when Máel Muire died in 913, her death was reported by the Annals of Ulster, an unusual thing for the male-centred chronicles of that time.
