Lynn Heritage State Park is[4] a history-themedstate park in downtownLynn, Massachusetts, and is part of theMetropolitan Park System of Greater Boston. It opened in 1986.[5] The Lynn Museum and Historical Society (the tenant of the former Park Visitor Center building)[3][1] now displays exhibits which highlight the city's industrial past, the tradition ofshoemaking and its transition from ahandicraft to mechanization, and the story ofElihu Thomson, an engineer and inventor instrumental in the founding ofGeneral Electric.[6] The park offers guided tours and a self-guided walking tour and includes the nearby 4.5-acre (1.8 ha)[2] Waterfront Park, located at Lynn Harbor.[6][7]
