Bahamian residential community
The map of New Providence Island shows Lyford Cay in the west NASA Landsat image Lyford Cay is a privategated community located on the western tip ofNew Providence island inthe Bahamas . The formercay that lent its name to the community is named after CaptainWilliam Lyford Jr. , a mariner of note in Colonial and Revolutionary times, and is built on a 448-acre (181 ha) grant he received for his services as aLoyalist in theAmerican Revolutionary War . Captain Lyford also received a 92-acre (37 ha) grant onCat Island for playing a key role inAndrew Deveaux ’sraid of April 1783 that drove the Spanish fromNassau .

On the map in the 1901Edward Stanford Atlas it is noted: "TheIsthmus at Lyford Cay has grown since 1830, when boats could pass atH.W. It is now 10ft high & covered with bushes."
Considered one of the world's wealthiest and most exclusive neighbourhoods, the Lyford Cay Club was built during the latter part of the 1950s[ 1] by prominentCanadian businessmanEdward Plunkett Taylor , who bought the land in 1954 from Bahamian developerSir Harold Christie .[ 2] [ 3] [ 4] In December 1962, U.S. PresidentJohn F. Kennedy stayed at E. P. Taylor's home in Lyford Cay while he held talks with British Prime MinisterHarold Macmillan .[ 5] [ 6] There are about 450 homes.[ 7]
