Luke Farley (born 1985) is an American politician and attorney who has served as the 19th and currentNorth Carolina Commissioner of Labor since 2025. A member of theRepublican Party, he supportsright-to-work laws,vocational education andapprenticeship programs, while opposingvaccination mandates for workers.[1]

Early life and career

Farley was born in 1986 inJacksonville, North Carolina and was raised inOnslow County. He received his bachelor's degree from theUniversity of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and hisJuris Doctor fromWake Forest University School of Law.[2][3]

Before running for office, Farley worked as anOSHA attorney in private practice for over 14 years.[4]

North Carolina Labor Commissioner

In October 2023, Farley declared his candidacy for North Carolina commissioner of labor after incumbent commissionerJosh Dobson announced he wouldn't seek re-election.[5] In March 2024, he defeated several candidates in the Republican primary, includingstate representativeJon Hardister.[6] Farley was endorsed during the primary by former Labor commissionerCherie Berry, while Hardister was endorsed by commissioner Josh Dobson.[7][8]

Farley went on to face formerCharlotte city councilman Braxton Winston in the2024 North Carolina commissioner of labor election.[9] Winston campaigned onprogressive issues and increasing theminimum wage while Farley supported increasingoccupational safety and health as well as his "Make Elevators Great Again" program.[10][11] Farley received the endorsement of theNorth Carolina Chamber of Commerce during the race[3] and defeated Winston in the general election by over 300,000 votes.[12][13][14]

On January 1, 2025, Farley was sworn in as the 19th Labor commissioner of North Carolina.[15][16]

Personal life

Farley is a religiousChristian. He is married to his wife; they have three sons and live inRaleigh, North Carolina.[2]
