The series is created byJonathan Tropper based on Marissa Stapley's novel of the same name. Tropper serves as co-showrunner alongsideCassie Pappas. It is produced by Apple Studios alongside Tropper Ink and will be executive produced byReese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter forHello Sunshine, a part of Candle Media.Anya Taylor-Joy, will executive produce through her production banner Ladykiller and also lead the cast. The series was given a series order byApple TV in December 2024.[1] Later that month, it was revealed that Jonathan Van Tulleken signed on to direct and executive produce the series.[2] In January 2025,Annette Bening andTimothy Olyphant joined the cast.[3][4] On February 20, 2025,Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor joined the cast.[5] On February 24, 2025,Drew Starkey joined the cast in a major recurring role.[6] In March 2025,Clifton Collins Jr. andMo McRae joined the cast in recurring roles.[7] In April 2025,William Fichtner andEric Lange joined the cast in recurring roles.[8]
